The #1 reliance

Today, much talk revolves around addictions. There's discussion about alcohol, drugs, eating disorders, and especially about new forms of escapism. Practices that allow further detachment from the mainstream, seeking a bit of satisfaction in a virtual world, where every desire can be fulfilled for a small subscription fee. But the image of toxicity is no longer on the streets but within our homes and, most importantly, inside our pockets.

Today, the image of the classic addict with a needle in their arm sitting on a bench at the margins of society still prevails, far from everything and forgotten by all. But today's reality is quite different. There's a new epidemic of addiction that no longer has roots in its past, an addiction that appears invisible to the majority until the most significant damage manifests itself. It starts as a game, a pastime, only to become the sole object of life, the only true friend to confide everything in and the only one capable of listening to our problems and understanding them. A friend who never says no and is always attentive with the right answers at the right moment. A friend always on point, always available to make us feel better about ourselves, to make us feel more appreciated. In reality, it's nothing more than a mere illusion. A fantasy of the mind, obscured by the potential of a new dark tool that resides in each of us; invisible, silent, within everyone's reach. Our smartphone. People who spend most of their daily time on the small screen become hallucinated, pallid, lifeless, bloodless. Nothing animates them anymore, nothing attracts them anymore; they live like zombies with waxen and hollow faces and big red eyes. The eyes of countless sleepless nights, stalking the coveted success of others never achieved. The countless shattered dreams, and the many free hours to occupy observing retouched and falsified images of others who aspire to the impossible in turn. This disease is highly contagious, involving everyone, young and old.
